QuickBooks Multi User Firewall Settings Issue

Last Update منذ ٧ أشهر

One reason why QuickBooks multi-user mode fails to work is the firewall, which prevents communication between computers. Suppose the firewall settings are not configured in a way that allows the sharing of the company files over a network. Say, it might identify QB processes or ports as a threat and stop QB from sending or receiving data to and from the company file on the server. The primary reason why the firewall blocks QB is the closed ports.
Firewalls are a network security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on a defined set of security rules. It acts as a barrier between a trusted network and an untrusted one, blocking communication and unauthorized access.
In the blog ahead, we will see how we can resolve QuickBooks multi user firewall settings and allow QB to share company files in multi-user mode. Go through the page and read it carefully to set your QB application for multi-user access.

Have a walk-through of this section to know how to configure the firewall and add a firewall port exception for QB programs. Let me take you ahead in the segment:
Step 1: Configure the firewall manually
In case you use multiple instances of QB version, perform the steps in all of them:
Head to the Start menu.
In the search box, write Windows Firewall and open it.
Choose Advanced Settings.
Right-click on the Inbound Rules option.
Choose New Rule.
Tap on Port and then pick Next.
Make sure that you have chosen the TCP option.
Head to the Specific local ports field.
Enter the ports according to the QB year version:
QuickBooks Desktop 2020 and later: 8019, XXXXX.
QuickBooks Desktop 2019: 8019, XXXXX.
QuickBooks Desktop 2018: 8019, 56728, 55378-55382.
QuickBooks Desktop 2017: 8019, 56727, 55373-55377
Note: QBDT 2019, 2020, and future versions use dynamic ports. They are specific ports and see how to get these dynamic ports.
Go to the Start menu.
In the box, write QuickBooks Database Server Manager and open QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
Head to the Port Monitor tab.
Get your QB version.
Note down the Port Number, and you will use this for your firewall port exceptions.
If you want to change the port number, choose Renew. If you do so, then to reset the firewall permissions, head to the Scan Folders tab> Scan Now. Remember, this is only possible for Desktop 2019 and later versions, not for older versions of QuickBooks.
When you are done entering the port number, choose Next.
Click on Allow the Connection.
Tap Next.
If you are asked, ensure that all the profiles are marked.
Tap Next.
Create a rule and name it QBPorts(year).
When it is done, choose Finish.
Create Outbound Rules by following the same steps. Only change step 4 by choosing Outbound Rules instead of Inbound Rules.
Open QB later and try to switch to multi-user mode.
Step 2: Create Windows firewall exceptions for QB programs
Go to the Start menu.
Search for Windows Firewall and open it.
Choose Advanced Settings.
Right-click on the Inbound Rules option.
Choose New Rule.
Choose Program, followed by Next.
Tap This Program Path and then choose Browse.
Here, you need to look for the executable files in the table and choose one.
Tap Next.
Choose Allow the Connection, followed by Next.
If you are asked, ensure that all the profiles are marked.
Tap Next.
Create a rule and name it QBFirewallException(name.exe).
Create Outbound Rules by following the same steps. Only change step 4 by choosing Outbound Rules instead of Inbound Rules.
